Russia's Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) has opened a case against OOO Rostagrokomplex for violating the law on protection of competition. The trigger was letters sent to retail chains demanding that they stop selling Aleksandrov K.B. curd snacks — even though the company holds no rights to the B.Yu. Aleksandrov brand it cited.

What happened?

In March 2026, the FAS issued a warning to Rostagrokomplex. The regulator found that the company had sent retail chains a demand to stop selling Aleksandrov K.B. curd snacks, because the name sounds similar to B.Yu. Aleksandrov. The company insisted it owned the rights to this brand, meaning the competitor had no right to sell a product with a similar name.

The FAS refuted this. The trademark licensing agreement was terminated back in 2022, and in 2023 B.Yu. Aleksandrov curd snacks were withdrawn from circulation.

What did the service demand?

The regulator ordered Rostagrokomplex to:

  • stop spreading false information;
  • send the letters back to the retail chains;
  • retract their contents.

The company did not comply with these demands. After that, the FAS opened a case. The service "will consider the issue of holding the violator accountable," the antimonopoly authority said in a statement.

Who owns the brand?

The owner of the B.Yu. Aleksandrov trademarks and its sub-brands was Boris Aleksandrov himself. Shortly before his death in 2020, he transferred the rights to his daughter.

Back in 2020, Ekaterina Aleksandrova filed a lawsuit against OOO Rostagrokomplex — the company's main operating legal entity. She demanded compensation of at least 1.49 billion rubles in damages for using the brand without paying royalties.

After that, in 2022, Rostagrokomplex changed the name on the curd snack logo: the B.Yu. Aleksandrov brand was replaced with A. Rostagrokomplex.

What's next?

The case over the violation of the law on protection of competition is under review by the FAS. The regulator will determine the company's liability for failing to comply with the warning and for spreading false information about brand rights that Rostagrokomplex does not possess.
