Shaquille O'Neal becomes the face of NordVPN: NBA star speaks in Vilnius
Shaquille O'Neal visited Lithuania for the first time and explained his partnership at the NordVPN conference in Vilnius: he only chooses brands he trusts, and cybersecurity is simpler than it seems.

NBA basketball star Shaquille O'Neal (Sh. O'Neal) visited Lithuania for the first time. On Tuesday, he spoke at the NordVPN conference in Vilnius and explained why he agreed to represent the brand.
"This is my first visit to Lithuania. For partnerships, I always choose brands I believe in. This is what the partnership with NordVPN is built on. Most people use the internet every day, but many still think cybersecurity is too complicated, even though it isn't," O'Neal said at the conference.
The partnership with O'Neal was commented on by Tomas Okmanas, a shareholder and head of Tesonet Global, the management company for the Tesonet group of companies. According to him, the choice is simple: O'Neal is one of the most recognizable stars in the U.S.
NordVPN is part of the Tesonet business ecosystem, one of Lithuania's largest technology groups. The partnership with the American superstar strengthens the brand's position in the key U.S. market, where competition among VPN services is intensifying.
For O'Neal, this deal aligns with a long-standing strategy. The athlete is known for numerous advertising contracts: after retiring, he built a portfolio of investments and partnerships across a wide range of categories — from quick-service restaurant franchises to auto insurance. In an interview at the conference, he emphasized that trust in a product is the main criterion when choosing brands.
The argument about the simplicity of cybersecurity is the central element of NordVPN's new communication strategy. The company is betting on a mass audience that uses the internet daily but puts off setting up protection due to perceived complexity. An ambassador of O'Neal's caliber is expected to break down that barrier: if a star can handle it, anyone can.
