WPP has appointed Tyler Turnbull as global CEO of its WPP Creative unit, according to sources familiar with the situation. Turnbull is moving from McCann, where he had served as global CEO since December 2025.

What is known about the appointment

Turnbull will lead WPP's creative business — one of the key divisions of the British advertising holding company. The appointment has not yet been officially announced: the information comes from sources close to the negotiations.

The appointment has become one of the most notable personnel moves in the global advertising market in recent months. An executive at the global CEO level is changing holding companies less than a year after taking office.

Why Turnbull is leaving McCann

Turnbull is departing McCann after taking the agency's top post in December 2025. During that time, he oversaw the integration of McCann into Omnicom's structure — following the acquisition of Interpublic Group (IPG), the holding company formed three global creative networks: BBDO, TBWA and McCann.

The integration of IPG into Omnicom radically changed the balance of power in the agency group market. Under the new structure, McCann retained its status as one of the holding company's three global creative networks.

Career path

Before McCann, Turnbull worked at FCB Global, which subsequently ceased to exist. He is credited with reviving the agency's Canadian office and attracting clients such as:

  • Home Depot;
  • Air Canada;
  • BMW Canada.

In 2022, he became global CEO of FCB. Thus, WPP gains an executive with experience running global creative networks within two major holding structures.

What this means for the market

Turnbull's move intensifies competition for management talent among the holding companies. WPP, which is strengthening its creative arm, gains a leader who has been through one of the most complex integrations in the industry's history. Omnicom, in turn, loses a top executive less than a year after his appointment as global CEO of McCann.
