A typical brand from Lithuania is mentioned in roughly 5% of artificial intelligence answers in its category. This is the estimate given by observations of language model behavior: AI answers have effectively become another search channel, but Lithuanian companies are still almost invisible in it.

Getting into AI answers happens through two main paths. The first is through the knowledge the model already acquired during training: it "knows" a company if information about it was in the training data. The second is through live internet search, when the model accesses web pages in real time to form an answer.

Both channels require different actions from businesses. For the first, it is critical that the company be mentioned in authoritative sources — media, industry directories, encyclopedias. For the second, the technical accessibility and structure of the website matter: clear markup, machine-readable content, correct metadata.

Experts identify six signals that can increase the likelihood of a brand being cited in AI answers. These include presence in independent publications, consistent and accurate descriptions of the company on its own resources, structured data on the website, activity in industry catalogs and rankings, as well as regular updates of information. These signals work in analogy with classic SEO, but adjusted for how exactly language models select and formulate sources.

Alongside positive signals, experts name three common technical mistakes that reduce the chances of getting into model answers. Typical problems include blocking robots' access to content, the absence of structured data markup, and a machine-unreadable presentation of key information about the company. Businesses can fix these mistakes without major investment.

You can start with simple steps that don't require a large budget: check whether the site is open to crawling by search engines and crawlers, add structured data, tidy up the company's descriptions in public sources, and make sure that key facts about the business — name, field of activity, products, contacts — are presented in machine-readable form.

The 5% mention rate means that competition for a place in AI answers is still low. Companies that start optimizing their presence for language models now will gain an advantage over competitors earlier.
