YouTube has introduced Shorts series, a new tool that allows creators of micro-dramas and other episodic short formats to combine clips into a single series in the style of a TV show. The presentation took place on September 23 at the annual Made On YouTube event.

The feature's main goal is to change the logic of how short content is consumed. Currently, viewers scroll through Shorts as separate, independent clips. Shorts series makes it possible to watch a collection of short videos as a cohesive story with continuity between episodes. The entire series is published on the creator's YouTube channel.

The tool is available to creators participating in the YouTube Partner Program. The feature works on three types of platforms: websites, mobile devices, and televisions.

The launch responds to the explosive growth of the micro-drama segment. According to previously disclosed YouTube data, global watch time for micro-dramas increased by 478% year over year. Southeast Asia led the growth, accounting for more than half of watch time and roughly a third of all uploads of such content.

For the platform, the bet on seriality means making the Shorts format more sophisticated — moving from scattered viral clips to structured storytelling that keeps viewers engaged longer and increases the channel's value for advertisers. For Partner Program creators, the series model opens a path to building a loyal audience around short formats, similar to traditional serialized television.

YouTube did not disclose a timeline for the feature's full rollout or the terms for monetizing series within the Partner Program. The company also did not say whether the tool would be extended to other genres beyond micro-dramas and episodic stories.
