Äripäev launches thematic site Omavalitseja.ee for municipalities
Äripäev has launched Omavalitseja.ee — a site for Estonian municipalities: news, analysis, rankings and comparisons covering finances, procurement and digitalization.

Publisher Äripäev has launched a new thematic site, Omavalitseja.ee, devoted entirely to topics relevant to Estonian local governments. The resource is intended to become a practical working tool for everyone involved in organizing local life and making decisions.
The site will track changes in legislation affecting municipalities and explain what new obligations, costs and opportunities these changes will bring to cities and rural municipalities.
What Omavalitseja.ee will publish
In addition to news and analysis, the editorial team will compile comparisons and rankings of municipalities based on open data. The focus areas include municipal finances, investments, public procurement, salaries, social services, education, construction, crisis preparedness and governance.
The project's ambition is to create a valuable tool that will help municipalities compare their results with others, notice important changes and make better-informed decisions. In addition, Omavalitseja.ee will introduce readers to the experience of local government leaders and working solutions that could be useful in other Estonian cities and rural municipalities.
The editorial team will pay special attention to the topics of artificial intelligence and digitalization — issues that currently directly affect every local government in Estonia.
Who the resource is for
The primary target audience is municipal employees. The site's goal is to serve as a reliable source of information and a place that makes their work easier. Plans include creating useful data tables and tools that allow comparing the results of local governments, learning from others' experience and identifying areas where operations can be more efficient.
The editor-in-chief of Omavalitseja.ee is Sanne Sigrid Taveter. She called on readers to participate actively by sharing topics and leads they would like to read about on the site.
In the photo accompanying the project's launch (from the archive of the Rae municipal government) are the leaders of four municipalities: mayor of Jõelähtme rural municipality Andrus Umboja, mayor of Kiili rural municipality Marek Vainola, mayor of Rae rural municipality Gerli Lehe and mayor of Kose rural municipality Ott Valdma. The photo was taken at the Rae municipal government office during the signing of Estonia's first agreement on creating a nationwide crisis cooperation network of local governments.
