Former TikTok employees Melody Chu and Jing Liu have released Superpose, an iOS app — a camera with generative AI that teaches users how to pose properly. This is reported in the app's listing.

The mechanics are simple. The user takes a selfie or photographs another person, after which the algorithm generates four pose options. The finished images can be saved, or the pose-matching feature can be applied to try positioning oneself in the frame differently.

The idea for the product came from personal experience. Melody Chu said the impetus was the bad photographs her husband took.

"My husband just takes terrible photos of me," she complained. "It was a real problem in our marriage. I couldn't understand how he managed to make me look so awful every time. And I thought there had to be a way to solve this problem using advances in generative AI."

Superpose has already converted users' desire for perfect shots into numbers: the app has been downloaded more than 22 thousand times. Basic features are free. Monetization for unlimited pose generation is built on in-app purchases — from $2.99 to $9.99.

The launch of Superpose fits into a broader trend: generative AI is increasingly being used in visual content. It was previously reported that restaurants are using neural networks to create images of dishes and design menus. However, the result is not always convincing: the food turns out too perfect, symmetrical, and smooth, making the pictures look artificial.

Superpose solves a related but different problem — it doesn't synthesize food "from nothing" but works with real photos, offering posing options based on them.
