Nestlé weighs its options after temporary management decree
Nestlé has taken note of Putin's decree placing its Russian assets under temporary management. The list also includes FM Logistic, Auchan, and Leroy Merlin. The manager is JSC "L.E.V. Management".

Nestlé has taken note of Russian President Vladimir Putin's decree transferring its Russian assets to temporary management and is now assessing the situation. The company is considering possible courses of action, according to an official statement from the Swiss food and beverage producer.
"Nestlé is committed to taking all necessary steps to protect its rights and ensure the continuity of business operations in the interests of all stakeholders, in particular its employees," the corporation said in its statement.
A day earlier, on September 17, 2026, Vladimir Putin signed a decree expanding the list of assets to be placed under temporary management. The list includes:
- shares and stakes in Russian entities of Nestlé — food and beverage production;
- FM Logistic — logistics and supply chain management;
- Auchan — food and non-food retail;
- Batilogistic — warehousing and logistics infrastructure;
- ADEO / Leroy Merlin group — home improvement, construction and DIY goods;
- NG Concept — commercial real estate design and construction.
JSC "L.E.V. Management" has been appointed as the temporary manager.
Food embargo extended until the end of 2028
At the same time, the head of state signed a document extending Russia's food embargo until the end of 2028. The restrictions, first introduced in 2014 in response to sanctions from a number of countries, will, under the new decree, be in effect from January 1, 2027 to December 31, 2028.
The embargo covers:
- meat and meat products;
- fish and seafood;
- milk and dairy products;
- vegetables and fruits.
The decree took effect on the day of signing — September 17, 2026. The Russian government has been instructed to ensure the implementation of the envisaged measures and, if necessary, to submit proposals on changing their duration.
For Nestlé, FM Logistic, Auchan, ADEO / Leroy Merlin and other companies on the list, the new decree effectively means the loss of direct control over their Russian entities. The foreign owners' next steps now depend on legal assessments and negotiations with the appointed manager.
