Russia's largest brewing companies have warned retail chains about possible delays in beer and other beverage deliveries. The reason is failures in IT infrastructure following UAV attacks on Yandex's data centers. This was reported by representatives of the Association of Beer, Malt and Beverage Producers (APP), RBC writes.

The association includes key market players: Baltika, Napitki Vmeste, Bochkarev Breweries. Together they account for about 70% of the Russian beer and non-alcoholic beverage market. The failure primarily affected Baltika and Napitki Vmeste (formerly AB InBev Efes).

What exactly broke?

The consequences of the drone attacks disrupted the operations of the service provider YouTrace. Its software is hosted in Yandex's cloud infrastructure. Producers faced two specific problems:

  • difficulties applying labeling codes to products;
  • failures in transmitting data to the state monitoring information system.

This concerns the state product labeling system — without transmitting data to it, the legal release of products to store shelves is effectively blocked. For breweries, this means a risk of shipment downtime, not just technical inconvenience.

How are the chains responding?

The Association of Omnichannel Retail Trade Companies (ACORT), to which the APP's letter was addressed, stated: "Supply issues are being resolved by suppliers directly with retail chains, while the chains are not reporting any problems interacting with the state labeling system."

The association's press service added that the difficulties are "isolated" and affect individual producers.

What does this mean for the industry?

The situation exposed the labeling chain's dependence on a single cloud provider. Labeling codes are a mandatory requirement for beer and beverages, and a failure at one service provider (YouTrace) can halt shipments from companies that control 70% of the market.

For retail chains, there is no direct threat of shortage yet — ACORT speaks of isolated difficulties. But if the downtime at Baltika and Napitki Vmeste drags on, delays in beer and non-alcoholic beverage deliveries could reach store shelves in the coming weeks: product shelf life and logistics do not allow for long pauses.

Market participants are left to monitor the restoration of Yandex's infrastructure and the status of data transmission to the monitoring system.
