TikTok joins the Lantern child protection program
TikTok USDS Joint Venture has joined Lantern, a program run by the Tech Coalition. Participants, including Google, Apple, and Roblox, have shared over 2 million reports of illegal behavior since 2023.

TikTok's American division — TikTok USDS Joint Venture — announced it has joined Lantern, a child safety program launched in 2023 by the Tech Coalition with the support of a group of technology companies. Participants in the initiative have already shared more than 2 million reports of potentially illegal behavior on social media.
Lantern helps companies, primarily social networks, collaborate to safely share information about malicious behavior and content. The goal is to identify offenders operating across different platforms more quickly. Alongside TikTok USDS JV, program participants include Google, Snap, Twitch, Anthropic, Discord, Microsoft, Apple, Roblox, and Reddit.
“Collaboration is essential to identifying and stopping the sexual exploitation and abuse of children, and TikTok USDS JV's participation will help strengthen coordinated action across the technology ecosystem,” said Lantern director Mark Leone.
According to the program itself, from 2023 to 2025, Lantern member companies shared more than 2 million reports of potentially illegal behavior on social media.
The platform joined the initiative a year after a change of ownership. In September 2025, US President Donald Trump signed an executive order approving the deal to purchase TikTok from China — the order is dated September 25. The decision to purchase and temporarily ban TikTok in the US was made earlier, in 2024, by the previous president, Joe Biden.
For advertisers and agencies, the move means stricter safety policies on the platform: sharing data about bad-faith accounts among Lantern participants could speed up the removal of harmful content and raise the overall level of trust in the TikTok ecosystem in the US.
